Donated Roofs
GAF, in partnership with the Veterans Community Project (VCP) and Unlimited Enterprises, has donated their first five roofs for deserving veterans at VCP Village in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Located on a two-acre property, VCP Village is a specialized community of 25 tiny homes with on-site, wraparound support services designed to equip homeless veterans with the tools needed to return to a stable, prosperous, independent life.
GAF, a North American roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, is donating the roofing materials for all 25 homes, with the remaining homes expected to be finished later this year. This collaboration is part of GAF’s social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which is focused on making a positive difference as neighbors and partners in the community by leveraging roofing expertise, resources, and products to help build resilient communities.
Unlimited Enterprises, a member of the GAF Community Contractor program, has donated the installation labor for the project, and will help in the installation of the roofs for each of the 25 homes. Each tiny house in VCP Village provides everything a veteran needs to live with dignity and security including new furniture, appliances, housewares, bedding, personal items, and utilities, all free of charge. The homes offer sanctuary and the emotional space needed for each veteran and VCP’s specially trained team to thoroughly address the underlying causes of his or her homelessness.
With the support of their case managers and battle buddies, veterans work to achieve incremental, lasting results in the areas of health and wellness, income stability, education and training, fiscal understanding, and the development of a personal support network. Once the veteran’s individual goals are met, VCP assists him or her in securing a permanent housing solution and transitioning to a new life.
